Personal

Early sessions focus on understanding your current challenges and building a treatment plan around your specific needs and goals — never a generic template.

Targeted

Therapy here looks at the whole person — physical, emotional, social and spiritual wellbeing — rather than treating a symptom in isolation.

Questions about therapy

Frequently asked questions

What is CBT?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy first developed by Dr Aaron Beck in the 1960s. 'Cognitive' refers to our thoughts, and 'behavioural' to what we do. CBT looks at how our thoughts, behaviours and feelings connect, so that changes in one area can help shift how we feel overall.

How does it actually help?

CBT teaches you new ways to think about difficult situations and new ways to respond to them. We often fall into negative, unhelpful thinking patterns without noticing — CBT helps you spot and challenge these, replacing them with more realistic, balanced alternatives, alongside practical steps that support your wellbeing day to day.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies by individual and by difficulty, but typically ranges from around 5 to 20 weekly sessions of 50 minutes each. We'll review progress together as we go, rather than committing to a fixed number upfront.

What can I expect from a session?

CBT aims to help you become your own therapist over time, by teaching skills you can keep using long after sessions end. Most sessions begin by agreeing together what to focus on — you won't be told what to talk about. Change tends to happen fastest when agreed tasks are also practised between sessions.

What can CBT help with?

CBT is one of the most researched talking therapies, and is widely recommended by NICE (the National Institute for Clinical Excellence) for common mental health difficulties in the UK, including those listed above.

Still unsure if this is right for you? Get in touch and we can talk it through.
